St. John’s Lutheran University and Centro Humanistico announce Groundbreaking Research on Theology and Sex

St. John’s Lutheran University, in collaboration with the Centro Humanistico, is proud to announce the launch of an ambitious research project titled “Theology and Sex: An Examination of Sexuality in Religions, Theology, and the Human Being.” This research project, led by Rev. Dr. David Guadalupe EJ, will delve into the complex relationship between theological beliefs and sexual perceptions and practices across diverse cultures and eras.

The project, which is expected to last between 5 and 7 years, aims to explore how religious traditions and theological doctrines have influenced and continue to influence norms, behaviors and laws related to sex in societies around the world. Through a multidisciplinary approach, this research will seek to provide new understanding of the interactions between faith, morality and human sexuality.

The Rev. Dr. David Guadalupe EJ, theologian and project leader, together with a multidisciplinary team of experts, will employ various research methodologies to examine sacred texts, conduct interviews with religious leaders, academics and lay people, and analyze data cultural and social. “We are at a crucial moment in understanding the intersection between faith and sexuality,” says Rev. Dr. Guadalupe EJ. “This project will not only seek to fill a gap in the existing academic literature, but also aims to foster a more inclusive and comprehensive dialogue on these fundamental issues.”

St. John’s Lutheran University and the Humanistic Center are committed to advancing knowledge and understanding on issues that touch the most intimate fibers of the human experience. This research project promises to be a major milestone in the study of religion, sexuality, and society.
